It’s been a week of unexpected, unwanted, unplanned, and unnerving events. In a matter of seconds, lives have been changed—or at least put on a different path. None of us are immune to tragedy. Most of the time, however, it hits us when we least expect it, and we are left in a state of not knowing what to do next. 

 

Have you ever found yourself in such a state where you are physically and mentally unable to know what to do? Something so unimaginable steps in and overwhelms with such force that the ability to form an action plan is totally out of reach. I know for a fact that there are people around me who have experienced that lately. This week, I have been there, too.

 

I have not recovered. I am still emotionally weakened from these events. While I am no longer in a state of mental immobilization, I was able to learn something during that period of shock which is helping me through these days of recovery.

 

God is here. 

 

In ways that I can’t explain, God made His presence known before the incident happened. I didn’t realize it then, but I can see it now. During the initial shock, God took the wheel and got me home. Immediately following, God led me to the people that provided comfort, direction, support, and love. And now, as I find myself revisiting the past, God holds my hand every time I find myself back there.

 

Honestly, I didn’t have the capacity to even ask for Him to be there with me at the time. I didn’t ask, yet He came. The pain remains, yet He soothes. He is, in every way, My Father. I didn’t have to know what to do. My Father does.
