Spring (a.k.a. "Another Reflection on Change")

Spring. Great time of year, I think. We get the "bug" to be outside in the yard scattering mulch and planting perennials. There's a nest of baby birds in one of our trees. It's pretty cool.
Our oldest son, who is in the Marines, recently got married. He and his new bride have left to live in California. (So young!)  Our oldest daughter graduates from High School this month. She'll be leaving for Calvin College in the fall. (Now I'm really feeling old!) Next year, two more sons graduate high school and will be making plans for a new phase of their lives. From six kids we'll be down to two in a matter of a little over a year.
Those birds in that nest back there will be out of their nest in a matter of weeks. Things are always changing. The new flowers I've planted will soon be blanketed by snow and the lawn mowers will be replaced by snow blowers. Changing.
I happen to enjoy change. I'm excited to watch my kids grow up and leave the house. Not because I'm eager to see them leave, but because it's SO exciting to see them experience life in all of these new ways. There is an element of sadness, sure, but I look at this change with hope and excitement. Things will not always be easy for them. Everyone experiences challenges. Those birds out there will eventually have to try out their wings. Scary, but necessary in order to experience life as they were intended to experience it.
I believe God wants us to embrace change. When things change, we may feel uneasy or even scared. The beauty of change is that while circumstances are unfamiliar, the one constant is God. He never changes. While our surroundings may be new, our challenges may be difficult, our "earthly" securities may be removed, even our very identities as we know it may disappear...yet God remains.
Embrace change. And while you're at it, embrace God. He doesn't change.

I love change. I love seeing God change things and change us. One thing I can't handle is status quo, same ol' same ol', and that sort of thing. If we aren't changing we aren't growing. I try and remind myself of that when I am in the passengers seat while my daughter is learning to drive behind the wheel. I'm like, ok, she has to do this to grow and learn! (Meanwhile, I might need a chocolate fix after from the stress! lol)

It is such a comfort to know that God is unchanging - his power, plans, grace, Mercy, promises .... all unchanging!!! He is the one constant in my ever changing life that remains the same!!!!

Re: Spring (a.k.a. "Another Reflection on Change")

I just reread this blog again. It reminds me of my kids right now. They are growing up and changing so fast. They have new responsibilities and they always want to hang with their friends which is a normal thing at their age. They don't want to spend much time with good old mom and dad these days. I expected this to happen just never thought it would happen so fast. However, I am happy they are growing up and learning about life, etc. I'm just thankful that with all the changes in life, especially the ones a mom experiences that God remains the same. He is my refuge and my rock!
